Conscious Sedation

Many children have anxiety before and during dental examinations.  Often soft voice control and non-threatening movements and touching of the child on the part of the dentist are sufficient to reduce the child’s anxiety.

For those children whose anxiety is not reduced by such techniques, mild anti-anxiety medications are useful to allow the child to experience a pleasant dental appointment.

When mild anxiety medications are not sufficient, sedative medications are used for both very young children and those older children (4 & older) who cannot/will not tolerate examinations and dental procedures.
